Si sono svolti nella serata del 7 gennaio i Golden Globes 2024, con Oppenheimer di Christopher Nolan che si è aggiudicato ben cinque premi: miglior film drammatico, miglior regia, miglior attore in un film drammatico (Cillian Murphy), miglior attore non protagonista (Robert Downey Jr.) e miglior colonna sonora originale. Grande successo anche per Povere creature! di Yorgos Lanthimos, che dopo il Leone d’oro alla Mostra internazionale d’arte cinematografica di Venezia si è aggiudicato il Golden Globe per il miglior film commedia o musicale e il premio per la miglior attrice in un film commedia o musicale (Emma Stone).
Sorpresa nella categoria per la miglior sceneggiatura, che ha visto il successo del film di Justine Triet Anatomia di una caduta, il quale si è aggiudicato anche il premio per il miglior film in lingua straniera. Due statuette sono state consegnate a The Holdovers di Alexander Payne, nello specifico per il miglior attore in un film commedia o musicale (Paul Giamatti) e per la miglior attrice non protagonista (Da’Vine Joy Randolph). Il ragazzo e l’airone di Hayao Miyazaki ha vinto il premio per il miglior film d’animazione, mentre il fenomeno pop Barbie di Greta Gerwig si è dovuto accontentare di due premi minori, per la miglior canzone e per il miglior successo al box office. Una sola vittoria per Killers of the Flower Moon di Martin Scorsese, per l’interprete Lily Gladstone come attrice protagonista di un film drammatico.
Per quanto riguarda i premi televisivi, invece, sono state tre le serie a dominare l’81esima edizione dei Golden Globes: Succession, The Bear e Beef – Lo scontro.
